A Reflection of #MHST601

Well I refuse to lie, these past three months have been a whirlwind. When I first enrolled in #MHST601 I was pretty content in my personal world, but within the first week of the course starting, I was beginning a new job, house shopping, finishing another course, and juggling multiple jobs. I quickly learned it would be much harder to stay on top of things than expected.

This course has forced me to look at the bigger picture of healthcare while still linking everything I read back to my current field. The first two units were interesting to reflect on myself and my current situation. I found myself looking back on coursework from my bachelor degree to compare the professional bodies and Ontario healthcare systems then and now (even though its only been 3 years). I also reflected a lot on myself with regards to social media. I told myself during the first unit that I would update and use my LinkedIn profile more and yet I still have not. Diving into the determinants of health and multilevel systems I found it hard to grasp many concepts. I understand the broad spectrum but writing that second assignment I was very lost in my own thoughts and unable to articulatly put them into words. There are just so many different concepts it reminded me too much of psychology courses. The last three units I found extremely interesting just researching. Chronic diseases are just so prevelant these days and it is very interesting to read articles and learning what different areas are doing to balance them. When I first heard and read the syllabus for the vulnerable populations unit I could only think of indeginous people of Canada, but as the weeks progressed I realized that there are so many more that effect me on a daily basis. It's been very insightful reading articles about vulnerable populations and I found myself getting lost in the reading during that unit. Future trends in healthcare are huge right now, but it will be interesting to see how the government (both federally and provincially) utilize the new technology to evolve the Canadian healthcare system.

Overall, I learned a great deal during this course and look forward to continue to learn throughout more. On a personal level I need to work on time management and a work-life-school balance for the next course I take.

Thank-you to all my peers in this course for providing so many insightful blogs and forum posts. I truly believe I learned so much more from reading everyone elses posts.
