As part of the first week in #MHST601, we were asked to look at ourselves through the eyes of others.

Google searching my name is quite interesting. I have a very "generic" name, so many of the searched items do not match me personally, however my LinkedIn and Facebook profiles do appear with a little bit of digging. I went though multiple pages of this google search and did not find anything that was related to me personally outside of those two profiles. I'm very surprised how many "Kaylee Duncan"s there are in the world.

Looking back on my last ten posts on Facebook is very entertaining and interesting. Most of what is on my profile is friends tagging me in things (mostly regarding animals, travel and food). What I personally post also has to do with these topics, but also brings into play things I feel passionately about. One of my most recent posts is about the new amber alert system and how it is very alarming to me personally that anyone is calling 911 to complain about this new system. Another of my posts is sharing of an article I have linked on this post regarding family decisions towards their elderly relatives. My next post is regarding the over use of packaging. Other posts involve funny memes of cats and other animals. My next post is regarding ER wait times.

Going through the last ten posts I have posted has been very insightful, and made me realize that I come across as someone who does not like people who complain about anything that has to do with someones well being. I am okay with that persona. There is definitely a lot more personal things such as photos on a private social media page of mine than a public but aside from that I don't think I hide who I am based on a public/private setting.

I would like to think I have a balance of public and private entities when it comes to social media. Professional profiles I use such as LinkedIn and now Twitter (which I just joined for the purposes of this course) are public, but other social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram are private. I think it is important to keep certain things private for safety reasons. I would say I am much more active on my private profiles then public. On my private profiles it is mostly friends and family, but public profiles have professional interests, news, environmental and world topics that I follow.

I re-post a lot of articles and opinions regarding healthcare. I take it personally when a person has one bad experience and takes it out on all of healthcare. I also re-post about public issues that are not linked directly to myself. I have no problem private messaging friends when they use social media as a place to rant about their healthcare experiences.
